pattern 3 and 4 from 111 easy edgings

I started this one yesterday while I was in meetings at my kids school, getting ready for the new year. In the break times, I worked on this lace. I have lots of this thread; it was a real big ball, so it will be fun to see how long this one gets. Also, on a side note, I am doing all of these laces in roughly size 10 thread and a size 6 hook so I can compare their finished sizes. It's always hard to see in a book how big or little they are in relation to each other.

I also started and finished edging four. I used an antique pearl cotton for it that only had 65 yards on a ball, so I got about 2 feet of lace. That much lace is still useful for aprons and crazy quilts and things of that sort.

Even though I will be working on number 3 for a while, I may start number 5 today, as well, to give me lots of stuff to work on in the car.

Lavender lace done... more lace...quilt

imgp8223
I have finished my ball of thread; it is always amazing to me how little lace a ball of thread actually makes. Never as much as you would think using size 10 thread and size 6 hook. Pattern one made a tiny bit over 2 yards. The photo above has the wrong color for the lace; the one to the left is more accurate. Did not know my daughter was taking my picture as I finished the lace; I was focusing on what I was doing. I am not actually frowning; boy, that is not a flattering photo!

On to pattern two in the same book. I am just using what is left of a ball to make this one, so I probably won't even get two yards.

I'm also helping my daughter with the quilt she is making. That is her to the left in bed reading Harry Potter books for the second go-round. She has had it, the quilt, on my quilt frame for a few years, and I have my quilts that need to be quilted that are in a back log. So I figure if I help her, she will have her quilt and be able to use it this fall, and I will be able to get some of my own quilting done.

Todays floral

These first few are for the same funeral.
It might be hard to see, but there are dragonflies on this arrangement.
funeral for same man
Same funeral, from the same person, so they had to be a little different. Also, I liked this arrangement before I completed it. So I took a photo before it had it's last 9 stems of flowers added.

After last nine stems got added.
Which way do you like better? I really loved that vase; sad to see it leave the store. It is clear purple glass (hard to see in the photo).

Making Commuter Crochet Lace Again

a little over 1 1/2 yards and more to go
So both my wrists are doing much better. The last two days I went to work without two arm braces on. Cross my fingers it stays that way. So I have gotten back into my commute of crocheting while my husband drives. I have about 1 1/3 yards made of this lace.

It drove me crazy for the last few weeks to do almost nothing but work. If I did more than that I was in such pain that I couldn't even cut my own dinner (aren't husbands great -- they help out when in need) but it sure made me feel like a little kid. Also no fun to wear arm braces at my husband's only brother's wedding. Definitely did not match my oriental silk satin Cheongsam. Mine is the same fabric and style as the one to the left, but the one I wore was white, and I wore a black skirt under it.

Update:

I have been asked by a few people what is this lace for and where did it come from. It is is from 111 easy edgings, pattern number 1. The use of it, that is funny -- I have no use for it. I just like making lace. When a use arrives, then I already have lace on hand to use. The book has 111 edgings, thus the name. In time, I want to make 1 of each for no other reason than to have lace on hand and to say to myself, "I did just that -- made 111 edgings!" Some are simple, some are fancy. I don't know if I will actually make all 111, but it might be fun to try; and if I never get it done, or I change my mind, then I still had fun making the ones I did, and I still have the lace to use.
