Alice in Wonderland Mitts

one
Because my middle  daughter wanted to make a pair.  This is the daughter who said she would never learn how to knit.   She said she only wanted the things I knitted but never would learn.  At one time I convinced her to learn but she said she would never do it again.  Imagine my surprise when she said she wanted a set of blue and white mitts for a costume she wanted to wear more surprised when she said she was going to knit them herself.

So I am making a set with her.  I went through the pattern to see any conflicts she might have with it as she is still a newbie.  Supper simple pattern to follow and free too.

I showed her how to cast on again and I did the cast off for her ( a loose cast off)Hers is light blue she is posting  on her blog about them.  Mine are dark royal blue with cream.  In a few of my photos you will see the beginning of hers as we compared colors.  She frogged her first glove three times before she liked it.  I never frogged mine took four hours to knit both mitts for me.  She is still working on hers.

both
I did mine in knit in the round then plain stockinette stitch then back to knit in the round, whereas  my daughter did hers in a twisted knit stitch then purls not twisted then back to twisted knit stitch in the round.  Because of the nature of the two stitches of course hers does not roll as much if I did mine again I would do it the way my daughter did with twisted stitches but I would twist them on all stitches not just the knits and I would add a thumb gusset.  I have never liked the slit opening feel it is sort of uncomfortable and pulls funny.  Because of this I will probably always wear these with lace gloves under them
one done for me one started for daughter Another feature of the twisted knit stitch is that it has more texture than just the plain knit stitch.
