Dhaos Costume

One of my friends has a daughter who wanted to go to the Salt Lake Comic Con as the character Dhaos.   The picture to the left is what the character looks like.  According to my oldest daughter the character is a guy that is a demon God of some sort that is trying to protect magic so his world will not die or something like that.  Yeah don't ask me I do not know at all.  I just know I had to make the costume.

This is what I cam up with for the under part of the out fit.  I bought a turtle neck shirt and some yoga pants at Ross.  My oldest daughter designed the parts that had to be in yellow on the computer and made me templates to use.  Would not have been able to do this very easy without her help.  I used her templates to make the appliqués that I hand sewed on and for the gloves that are sewn to the ends of the sleeves. So yes you put the gloves on at the exact same time as you do the shirt.  The head band is a burka style hat with a hole cut in the op to accommodate the hair coming out.

For the first cape you have to wear I used flannel.  Once again my daughter helped me with the appliqué patterns.  So this is kind of a warm costume for the summer months but a lot of costumes are very warm.
Encase you are curious this is me in these photos usually I use my children as my mannequins but I was closer to her size then my children are.  The person playing this character has to get her own shoes as that is too hard to fit without he person there to try them on.  She is also had to pick up her own bangle bracelets.

The final part of the costume is the red over cape. For this I actually used a wood burner to make the holes around the face area of the cape and to make the fringe made it much faster to make as I hid not have to sew around all the fringe like I did on the first cape.  I have decided that making anime costumes is actually kind of hard as are no rules how you can draw clothes.  But for a first try I think it came out pretty good.

Grandma's chair

Was re-arranging a room to make room for a vanity and chair from my husband's  grandmother.  The more I looked at the chair the more I knew I had to stop and re-upholster the chair.  Since it is only about a 10 min. thing to do I stopped immediately  picked fabric from my stash and did it.  The old fabric was washed out, stained, frayed looking, and not a color that is in my house any where.  I like reds and have lots of red in my house so it was easy to decide what color it would be.  Because I like reds I already have lots of fabric in the house in colors I like that work in my home.  I took off the old blue fabric and tossed it in the trash.  I saved the nails to save myself a trip to the hardware store and it is done.  I may go back and put a cording on it later it does not need it but it would look more finished to me.
Sorry the photos are not better I took them with my phone and it has no flash so yep bad photos.  But since I was not planning on a post that is how it goes.  I was just going to show family on facebook.

I hope all of you are enjoying your summers with your family I have had lots of time with my family this summer and will be back to posting more in the near future.  I have traveled too much this summer and I need a vacation from summer.  So once school is back in session I will have it.

Photos from actual performances...

here is just a sample of the almost 1000 photos I took during the actual performances. The stage had a hazer going so it was more visual than in the tec rehearsals.
Aboveand to the side is the play within the play at the very end.

Above, below and to the side is puck and a few of the fairies the one in orange yellow and red is playing Mustardseed my daughter.  The pink and green fairy is Peasblossom and the dark fairy is Cobwed.  It was a lot of work making these costumes but I really like the way they came out on stage.

For those that do not know i have applied for a job as a stitcher doing sewing professionally for a theater company locally.  I am hoping to get the job but since I am self trained do not know what my chances are.  I hope good as the interview went well.  Wish me luck it means i can stay a full time mom and still earn some money all while working from home.

Tec Rehearsal Mid summer night's dream

Sneak Peak at the play Mid summer night's Dream and some of the costumes.  Some i made some are from previous years and some are made by other mom's helping with the play this year.  this was during tec rehearsal so not everyone is in full costume or hair and makeup this is just a rough idea.

Below photo is old costumes from previous years
I did not make these last two costumes they are done my another mom entirely.  But the young man in this photo is such a nce person i wanted to include him here.
