this cord only unravels in one direction so you have to make the exact amount you need for each spot

1. chain 3
2. in 2nd ch make sc, in next ch make 2 sc, ch 1 turn work
3. * 1 sc in first sc, 3 sc in 2nd sc, ch 1 turn work**... repeat to desired length

Romanian point lace cord sizes

Since posting cords to my shop people have asked what is the differnece between the cord sizes I figured easiest way to explain is a visual.

Not pictured I have made size 50 and 100 but oh my goodness I don't have that patience anymore or that eyesight heaven bless those that do as it is a sad day when good vision starts to go.

(pink and white) Size 30 size I have used for baby bonnets to make it more dainty.

Size 15 not pictured ( because I don't have any made at the moment) I don't use often but do every now and again becuse I own some thread that size


Size 20 ( cream ) and 10 whitish) I use the most for cord ( I usually fill with size 30 thread).

Size 3 ( cream ) and 5 ( ocher) I use for making bracelets and such .  I have used size 3 on a bodice of a child's dress to make it more sturdy.

So in the hopes of helping people get cord to make Romanian point lace my children and I have been making lots of it and pulling out all from my stash.   The reason for this is Sylvia Murariu has passed away and people have been sending me emails trying to get a hold of her cord for classes they are teaching and projects they are making.  So I have been trying to accommodate where I can.

Sylvia's kind niece sent out the email see below to people on her mailing list.  I just wanted to pass it on to my readers.  So if you have ever been or think you will ever be interested in this type of lace.  Contact her now as I do not know how long her supplies will last that her aunt made. These books sell on amazon for crazy amounts of money.  I think it would be better for all involved to support the family left behind and buy directly from Sylvia's niece instead of people just in it for a quick dollar.  Sylvia's site sells the books for about 20 dollars I have seen them on amazon in the 60's to hundreds.

I am writing to let you know of the unfortunate and very sad news that my aunt, Sylvia Murariu, has lost her battle with cancer a couple of months ago - March 2017. However, we know that she is rejoicing with The Lord Jesus now, and is pain-free and worry-free.
My name is Laura Stoicescu, and I am Sylvia’s niece. Sylvia was like my 2nd mother. She was my mother’s sister, and she was not able to have children of her own. We spent a lot of time together, and I will miss her so dearly. She even took the time to teach my young daughters the beginning of lace-making and other handmade work, and we will treasure this forever.

RPL Wheat Grain cord free pattern

This is a Romanian point lace cord It does not unravel from both ends but it does add nice texture to your lace pieces.

supplies

size 10 thread
size 10 hook

special stitches

puff stitch

 yo as if to make a double crochet, *go into desired stitch or space and yo pull through then yo again* repeat till you have 9 threads total on hook yo 1 more time and pull through the stitches

pattern

1. chain 3 
1. 
2. make puff stitch in 3rd chain from hook (skipping first two stitches) chain 3 turn work

Joining two cord ends togehter in RPL

Here is a tutorial of how to join two ends of Romanian point lace to each other.  Usually this is best to happen in a spot where you will be making the join above another cord so it is more invisible from the front of the lace.

Unraveling cord & sewing to another cord / video tutorial

Here is  ruffly a 6 min video I put together to help the two Romanian point lace groups that I admin on Ravelry and Flickr.  I am hoping this will help other people here too that read my blog.  Since there is not much information in English about this type of lace.  I hope to be able to make a pretty good data base here for  people to reference instead of doing what I had to do it.

RPL alternate simple cords

These are cords that you can use to add to your Romanian lace.  I still recommend the first cord as  your main cord because it unravels both ways where as these only unravel from one end and are more decorative than helpful in construction.

Romanian Lace cord tutorial / video

OK, so I have never made a tutorial video so this is very rough, but I hope it helps those who want to learn to make this cord, because it is easier to learn in motion than from written instructions. I had the camera on a tripod, so it goes a little in and out of focus; sorry for that. In the photos are some close ups of the cord in different colors and sizes of thread so you can see what it looks like up close. This cord is very unique in that it can unravel from either end; that is why it is very important the over and under because if you don't do that, the cord will not unwind from both ends. I have made this cord with size 100 tatting thread up to Aunt Lydia's rug yarn (I am not fond of the yarn size). At one time I thought I would make a rug with this technique using big rug yarn; didn't like the project, so it got torn apart and never saw the light of day.

the pattern is
chain 2 skip chain closest to hook single crochet in second hook doing first Hook over and second hook under turn go through first bar on side. *ho then hu pull off turn. Now go under the two bars on side at the same time * repeat from star to star for desired length
