size 20 romanian point lace cord

So in the hopes of helping people get cord to make Romanian point lace my children and I have been making lots of it and pulling out all from my stash.   The reason for this is Sylvia Murariu has passed away and people have been sending me emails trying to get a hold of her cord for classes they are teaching and projects they are making.  So I have been trying to accommodate where I can.

Sylvia's kind niece sent out the email see below to people on her mailing list.  I just wanted to pass it on to my readers.  So if you have ever been or think you will ever be interested in this type of lace.  Contact her now as I do not know how long her supplies will last that her aunt made. These books sell on amazon for crazy amounts of money.  I think it would be better for all involved to support the family left behind and buy directly from Sylvia's niece instead of people just in it for a quick dollar.  Sylvia's site sells the books for about 20 dollars I have seen them on amazon in the 60's to hundreds.

Email from niece below

Dear Lace-Lover,
I am writing to let you know of the unfortunate and very sad news that my aunt, Sylvia Murariu, has lost her battle with cancer a couple of months ago - March 2017. However, we know that she is rejoicing with The Lord Jesus now, and is pain-free and worry-free.
My name is Laura Stoicescu, and I am Sylvia’s niece. Sylvia was like my 2nd mother. She was my mother’s sister, and she was not able to have children of her own. We spent a lot of time together, and I will miss her so dearly. She even took the time to teach my young daughters the beginning of lace-making and other handmade work, and we will treasure this forever.
Over the years, I have helped my aunt Sylvia build her website (www.sylviaslace.com) and helped with other aspects of her business. I will be trying my best to continue sharing her legacy and love of lace-making. I do not have experience in lace-making myself, but I appreciate all of the hard work that goes into it, and the beauty that comes out of it.
I have been updating the website www.sylviaslace.com so that it reflects what is still available of Sylvia’s beautiful patterns, kits, books, dvds, etc. I do want to let you know that while I should be able to reproduce the patterns, books, and dvds, the KITS are very limited. This is because these kits include the handmade cord, and sometimes beads and other supplies. So, once they are gone, they are gone.
If you are interested in handmade cord, please email me and I will let you know what is available.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me here at sylviaslace@gmail.com. Until then, take care, and happy lace-making!

Irish crochet Tam kits

I have made a few kits available in my store these are limited items as the yarn used in my original Tam is from the 1980's and has not been made about 30 years.  So here is your chance to make the item with vintage thread and antique mother of pearl buttons.  Similar to mine only the color is a little different.

Lovely Irish crochet details on this tam. All yarn included in kit please crochet tightly or you will not have enough it take the entire amount to make the hat.  Samples are all in one color of yarn but would be lovely if colors are added to the Irish crochet details or the lace edging

Items in kit
*pattern
*3 balls of vintage yarn ( color twill cream/tan)
*5 antique mother of pearl (MOP) buttons because of their age they will show signs of age that adds to the charm of the piece ( not pictured they will all be different than each other no two kits the the same) so each hat is one of a kind when done
* pattern instructions

There are five flowers made for this cap one mother of pearl button per flower center

The yarn is Bernat Cassino vintage yarn from the 1980's and no longer made . See images of balls of yarn for color the hat samples are made from different colors of this same yarn. This is for a kit only not the finished item and only comes in the color twill cream/tan).

Items not in kit but needed for project
hooks used are a 5 and 8 steel
and G and H aluminum
liner fabric if you want yours lined ( mine were not)

Also this yarn likes to stretch so it is best to make a liner. If you do that you will have to figure out that part yourself. It is just a big circle gathered to a band that is the same diameter as your head plus a tiny bit about an 1/4 inch for easy of wear. But a pretty silk is nice inside make sure the liner will fit you then sew it into the hat at the brim and at the point where the brim transitions from brim to hat

about the yarn
name Cassino discontinued from the 1980's
Brand Bernat
Weight DK / 8 ply (11 wpi)
Meterage 110 yards (101 meters)
Unit weight 50 grams (1.76 ounces) per ball
Gauge 22.0 sts = 4 inches
Needle size US 6 - 4.0 mm ( for this pattern you will be using different sizes then the suggested size hook)
Fibers 100% Cotton

Yoyo headbands

I love opening boxes I have not seen in a few years.  Quiet often I find half done projects and things I have even forgotten I have made.  This is one of those items.  Years ago I made some garlands out of fabric yoyos.  I never got around to hanging the garlands other than in photos.  So after a while I started to dismantle them and use the yoyos for other things.  This was one of those other things.  I made headbands.  There is an elastic at the nape of the neck so they can stretch and fit snuggly.

Ravelry patterns now free

leftleft sideFor those of you on Ralvelry  I have made all my patterns there free.  There are some new laws going into effect that affect pdfs.  I just do not care to deal with the European tax system.  That includes my Irish Crochet hat

Baby Bonnet Pattern Antique

bonnet page 2

Here is a $1.50 pattern for you to purchase if you like baby bonnets. I don't care if you sell items from this just do not sell the pattern please just link people back to here thanks . Just thought it would be fun for people to use. Now it is in old terms and you do have to know about crochet and traveling from one level to another but with practice I think you can get it just fine. You will need to download it from Ravelry. Please let me know if that link works ( the buy now at the bottom of this post) I think it is my first time I am trying that maybe not can't remember if I did that on the caplet or the orange shirt. The pattern is circa 1862 just a little after it as it has reference in the leaflet to the London exhibit ( i.e. world fair) The authoress of this pattern is also from London ( Cloudesley Square to be exact) so these are in European terms of crochet.

A new face in the store..

yellow cloche
This is Ellie she is the new head model in the store I got her about 2 months ago and just didn't have time to take photos of her with the move and all.
head bandblue 1912 hat
I love having her as my model it means less floating hats in just black space and it doesn't have to be my face under any hats.
red snow ahtyellow tam
Which is something I am all for the less photos of me the better in my opinion I usually do not like my photo taken just sort of funny that way.

Neck warmer with brooch

brooch
I have this habit of making things as if you couldn't guess that by now. I had 1 skein of this really cool purple yarn.
neck warmer with brooch closure
After looking at it for a bit I figured I had just enough for a neck warmer can also be worn as a fuzzy collar.
warn as collar with brooch closure
While boxing some stuff up I noticed that I had some rayon vintage pink and blue seam binding not in its box which is already in a pod unit.
rayon seam bindingvintage seam binding
So humm what could I do with this. I know I will make a brooch closure for the neck warmer that can be worn on other items. It looked kind of plain just the seam binding. So I added the same ribbon I used on the 1912 hat I made a brooch and added it to the neck warmer. Still looked a little plain so I added a vintage fuzzy button to it too.

Newborn varigated baby bonnet

left front
back
Most baby bonnets in my store look more like little girl bonnets. So I thought I would make one that looks a little more boyish but a girl could still wear. This is made from sock yarn. Took me three days to make. It is a little crochet and a little knit the back and face edging is crochet the brim is knit. It has a chin strap to keep it on baby's head with a button closure. this is 70 % super wash wool and 23% polyamide and 7% PBT. This will be in store today. There is no pattern for this I made it up as I went along.

1912 Hat all done

Monday, August 17, 2009

hat all finished

The pattern will be in the stores tonight or tomorrow.
My creationMy creation

1912 Hat

start of 1912 hat
I have been working on another hat pattern for the store. I call it the 1912 hat as it has that area feel to it. The neat thing about this hat is the way the pattern is written you can easily make the hat for a child or adult using any yarn with corresponding hook. This way you can use any yarn in your stash also it is drafted for one or two colors so you can make it match any outfit. The pattern should be both stores ( Etsy and Ravelry by the end of the week) it will be a pdf and available for $3.75 US Dollars. The hat is not done in these photos it still is getting a wide brim.

I think it would be a lovely Christmas or Easter bonnet. For either adults or little girls. I will show a finished hat in a few days I still have to finish the floppy brim. The pattern is done just not the item.
