I found this blue lace a few months ago at DI (a local thrift store) and have been trying to figure out what to do with it ever since. I think it is going to become a summer type cover up to go with t-shirts and blue jeans. The lace is just thread that has been stitched in place. But I plan on crocheting or knitting sleeves and a bottom. Haven't decided yet it will have all three rows of lace at the yoke or if I will move some to the sleeves or hem of it yet. I am leaning to moving it. I think it could be pretty if it come out the way it sort of is in my head. the reason I say sort of is because I have about 4 ideas mixing around in there and have not pinned it down as of yet. This lace cost all of $1.00 so not to stressful if it doesn't work. But I hope it does all the same.
In this photo you can see the fagoting to hold the strips together I am doing with a little bit lighter blue thread.
This shows the third row of lace that I am thinking of un-pinning and moving someplace else on the sweater.
The very top photo shows all three rows of lace. The bottom one being the one I am thinking about moving. As you can see I have just cut the lace. I will sew along the edge and probably place seam binding there but it will also either have a knit or crochet button band to hid this and to make a finished closure.
So should I leave the sweater as laid out or move the bottom to the hem or cuffs.
I think this will be a cute covering for a t-shirt! If you move the bottom row of lace to the hem, it will tie whatever else you do back in with the top, imho.
ReplyDeleteI got a crocheted, long-sleeve cover like this a good dozen years ago--very versatile and fun!
