When your daughter is trying to figure out how small she can fold an origami flower.
My children have made origami for years... I have stepped on so many bits and pieces of paper torn or cut into little squares it is unbelievable... But I would feel bad if these little bits got stepped on. I can't even see small enough things like this anymore to even attempt to fold this small. She was using small steel crochet hooks as her fingers to fold it.

4th of July post card
These are hand printed cards made by me on an antique printing press with antique lead and wood type. I printed these July 4th 2011 and they got miss placed in a move. I have since found them and wanted to make them available for others to enjoy.
They are 6 1/2 by 9 inches
lithograph ink and printed by hand which means each has a little different feel to it in the amount of ink on the print they are all hand signed and dated.
They are currently available in my etsy shop
i won't be making these again once they are gone there will be no more made.

Drawing eye candy
It has been years since a got new nice supplies for art. This is so exciting to me I can not wait to use these this and next term for my costume design classes. I have gotten to do some drawing as of late. Am very excited to be able to do more of it.
Some of these were Christmas gifts the small ones with out the big names. But the prismacolor pens and pencils those were purchased yesterday the excitement of getting them at 50% off.
Also found out this last week that I get to do the costume design for the touring play next spring for UVU and the makeup for the play " a year in the life of frog and toad" should be a fun and busy year.

65 flowers
So today was a family get together to help one of my sisters prepare for her wedding next month. My children and i sat in a room making 3 boutonnières, 2 corsages, the brides bouquet, the bouquet toss bouquet 11 arrangements for tables and 65 origami flowers... my children also helped make oriental fan decorations and lanterns and hanging paper ornaments for the wedding it was fun doing this for her she is such a nice person.

We also collected some beads to make her hair piece which me and my middle daughter will work on together.

Stippling a Jean Jacket
My middle daughter found this jean jacket thrift shopping and really liked it but she wanted to embellish it yesterday. So she drew a rose on it and started to sort of cross hatch it and I commented that it would look better if she stippled it so yes her response was pretty much I do not stipple well so can you help me.

Which translates into mom will you do that part for me. So she is
drawing the rose and leaves and thorn vines (still in the works) on to
the jacket with pencil.

Then I get the fun of coloring it in with millions of little dots of permanent ink. I have a card board (cake board) inside the jacket for rigidity while drawing and to keep the over inking from going to the front side of the jacket. I usually do this type of thing on paper but it is fun to do on fabric as the colors bleed and blend better.

Stipple always sort of has a look of a tattoo about it to me. I guess that makes since since tattoos are basically stipple drawings on peoples bodies. But I prefer this much more over a tattoo less permanent. Funny to me as I did use permanent sharpie markers to color this in. I will heat set it before it gets washed or worn. Because of the over inking I am worried it may still run but I doubt it.
This will probably have bead-work before we are done with it to add depth to it and more colors.

Amazing origami and string art
Most who fallow my blog know my children love origami and kirigami. Today my family and I spent the afternoon at BYU taking in a puppet show ( A Mid summer nights dream) and going to the MOA ( museum of art) and just looking around.
These are free exhibits (the string and origami ones) so if you happen to be in the Provo area of Utah you should go.

A gift for a new friend

- her art fire site
- her facebook site
- her web store
- her blog
- her etsy store which does not seem active as of late but look at the sold items such eye candy like you can not believe

We talk to her any time we see her at a ren fair. My kids just adore her as do I. She gives off a great vibe of love and friendship.

So she made her earrings ( I hope her ears are pieced as I truly do not remember at this moment. a bracelet and a necklace. The green beads are made out of stone. The round rocailles are glass and I think the square bead is Lucite but not sure on that one.
Because we have bought stuff from her in the past we have her business address so that is were it was mailed to many happy returns of the day to you Michelle and hope when ever your true b-day was/is it was/is a great one. These were put in the mail today so she should get them tomorrow or the next day. So yes this is a spoiler.

Origami boxes
My oldest daughter made origami boxes to put all her Christmas gifts in for the family.
Mine came in a rose box

my husbands came in a throwing star box

My middle daughters came in a box that looked like candy

My oldest put hers and her youngest sister in just a simple box.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed seeing some of our gifts that we hand made for each other. The posts from here out will just be normal projects not Christmas gifts anymore. Hope you are all having a lovely New Year.

Origami Helmet
This is a video tutorial that shows the way she folded these little bits of paper to make this item. This technique if you Google it usually called a 3d fold in origami.
My children have made me easter eggs in the past using this technique with lots of different colored pieces of paper. sometimes they use the computer mishaps when printing if you do that just make sure the ink part is on the inside when folded if you want a clean look.

New Silhouette of my oldest daughter
My daughter had a choir performance over the weekend that had her group singing with Vocal point. I did her hair for it and thought it looked good in profile. Good enough that I wanted to do a new silhouette of her it had been 10 years since I did the last one so it is about time I do all of my children again.
She has her hair up in a French twist that turns into a a braid that is then formed into a bun. She had to wear a white shirt for the performance with a scarf. As you can see I stream lined the scarf so as not to have to cut all the roses but I was real tempted to cut them just not sure it would look good in the finished piece.
In this silhouette she reminds me so much of my grandmother it almost makes me cry. I took two photos so you could see what she actually looked like and what the silhouette looks like. I took the two photos after the performance so her hair was rumpled by this time.

Very slow progress
Life is crazy busy with things I care not to go into on here. Because life is such I have not been able to do much of any projects. This is not a complaint it is just a fact. I have made some progress on the blue scarf it needs three more repeats to be to the half way point. For those who are curious as to what the back of this looked like here it is folded over so you can see what the back view is.
I have made very little progress on my stipple doodle but I have made some all the same.
I have added a few lace repeats to my never ending sampler. Some day this may be a scarf or it just maybe something that I continue to practice different knitting stitches on and be nothing more than swatches.
I have made very little progress on my stipple doodle but I have made some all the same.

15 years ago he had a dream to open up a 501(c)3 non-profit museum all about movable print and where it came from and where it has gone in history. Located at 275 East Center Street in Provo , Utah 84606 in a very small little building that can easily be missed when driving past in this building his dreams came to life. This modest little building houses some amazing items in printmaking history. Movable type has changed the way the human race has looked at the world and interacted with it.

Next leap 2011 the internet has concurred the world and people carry around digital books the text and touch and feel of a book are fading away from us. As a bookbinder and printer that is a hard thing for me to grasp I so love reading a book and gaining knowledge from it most hings I do I have done becasue of books and being able to sit and teach myself. I love books old and new there is something about them that draws me to them. The economy is languishing and many museums are closing their doors and not for the weekend but permanently to never come back. There is a legacy to be had in our history and what got us here as a world the printing press has changed the face of this earth. It has helped create nations and it has set people free spiritually progress has moved forward becasue of type. Please help this museum stay to give a great legacy in our children yet to be born.
If you have been there and know the value of this museum and what it stands for or if you feel touch by my notes here call, stop by, donate anything to help and do it fast or they will close their doors and you may never be able to see the wonders of this museum. It is truly a one of a kind place.
If you are interested in looking at their web site go to Crandallmuseum.org (they have a donation link in place on there but are having technical difficulties with it and paypal). If you choose to donate to them you can mail them money ( if you do make it rush so they get it in time to save the museum)or call and use a credit card or stop by and give it in person and enjoy the museum too. They are working today to get the credit card/paypal thing fixed on their web site but have been told it may take a few weeks to get that all fixed.
