Yoyo Crochet Baby bonnets

I don't always post when I make things becasue of restrictions with publishers and things of that sort sometimes other authors when I am testing patterns for them.  I actually have about 12 times right now I can't show till a later date then I will share them too.

Last October I made 4 baby bonnets out of yo-yo crochet.  They where possible items for the book  or for the magazine article they never ended up in either.  So here is my question are people liking these if so I can post the patterns and make them available to people.  Some of these photos were taken last year shortly after I made these in October to send to the publisher as some idea submissions for the magazine and some today.   I was on vacation for my Vova's birthday last year and I got these ideas in my head so the colors are a little off becasue I had not planned on making bonnets and it was meant more as an idea to get out of my head.  But I still like these anyway funny colors and all on some of these.   I never finished these by putting their ribbons on them I should do that now.Enjoy

Free yo-yo crochet pattern on line

The choker and bracelet pattern I did for crochet magazine is now available on line for  free.  If you are interested in starting a quick and simple pattern this is for you .  You can use the perle cotton it suggests or knit cro sheen.

Book Signing and class

There will be a book signing on September 29th at the Heinselman's in Provo, Utah.  Followed by a class on how to make a scarf using yo-yo crochet.    If you want to take the class it is 2 hours long and is for two weeks.  Book signing is on Sept. 29th from 5-6 pm. The class will follow the signing on the 29th from 6-8 pm and the second half is October 6 from 6-8pm

Errata for yoyo book

Just noticed today that I needed to post some errata for the "Learn to do yo-yo Crochet" book.  Just so you know this doesn't effect any of the patterns in the book it is in an area where it is just explaining a concept so the numbers don't actually hurt anything but it would be nice to have things correct.

Yoyo Crochet Tutorial in book form

My popular yo-yo crochet tutorial has now been made into a book so you can take it with you when you go places and keep it with your project.  Annie's Attic has made it available for those who have asked when can they buy a hard copy the time is approaching. 

There are the old ways as well as a few new ways of manipulating the yoyos such as :Hexagon yo-yo, zig-zag yo-yo, granny square yo-yo, straight lines yo-yo and yo-yos in a chevron formation.  The techniques are discussed in the projects so you can learn to manipulate this very versatile stitch all the more and create some of your own unique projects as well as the ones in the book.

Annie's site reads 8 projects and the cover reads 9 but there are 12 if you count the three explained at the end of the joining tutorial and then there is the tutorial itself.  I am not counting the second version of the hat as a separate pattern but if you did then add one more to the list.

Sunday Pile-up and crochet

The girls felt like dog piling the oldest Sunday. That was before the younger two got sick yesterday so now I am home with two little sick kids hopeful I don't get sick. The thought of getting sick and coughing with stitches is just an unbearable thing at the moment. I am a mom and that is what happens, I am happy to have company any way better than staring at four walls alone. I have also been working on some crochet.

Here is the neck warmer I promised to show the other day. It has mother of pearl buttons as closures. This is real soft and has a nice drape to it.

Fall yoyo pilllow

Remember that pile of yarn I have to work my way through for a special order. Well I get to keep the scraps from the projects. I had this pillow in my house that I made when I was 16 years old it had seen better days. I removed the fabric cover made a new liner and covered it with crochet yoyos for the fall season. There wasn't much of this yarn left when I had finished making the customer's items but not much is needed for such a little project. Which has been true of all the yarns. I also have a new neck warmer from scraps from one of the other projects too. I forgot to post it maybe later I will remember and post that. There are a few more projects to do for this order then I will be back to normal posting.

Colors of Fall

Here is a small sample of a project I am working on. I like the colors for fall. Sort of pumpkin pie and spice.

yoyo & granny square afghan progress

Here is the progress on my oldest daughters yoyo afghan. All the little pieces are the centers to all the blocks that it takes to finish this afghan. I think she is making pretty good progress. I had my oldest daughter sit in the top photo so you could sort of have a size reference. This is to fit a twin size bed when she is done with it. You know the best thing about the three afghans that are being made for the kids in my house my acrylic scrap box is only about 1/4 the size it was. Also all the little scrapes being left by my kids projects will make nice little weave-it loom squares. Also did you notice my kids tend to assemble afghans the way I do meaning they go in a random sort of pattern.

My middle daughter (who is now 10 in the last photo of this afghan she was still 9) is moving right along on her afghan as well. I think hers is probably harder mental wise as it such a repetition of the same color and stitch for so long to go all the way around. The yoyo afghan has more variety so it keeps the interest easier for the older daughter. But the skill levels are such that these are the correct afghans for each daughter to be working on. I think my middle daughter would get frustrated with the yoyo and the older daughter would be bored with the granny square. It is also getting hard for the granny afghan color wise as the balls of scraps that I have large enough to go around are not always the prettiest colors next to each other. But my daughter is fine with that and keeps going forward. It is 100% a scrap afghan and sometimes they tell you what is next and not the other way around.

My kids always seem to have a bad case of bed hair that may be because I like to take photos first thing in the morning so I have good lighting and sleepy kids I guess.

Wire yoyo crochet bracelet

So I was playing with wire and crochet today and made myself a wire crochet yoyo chocker. I don't think these pictures came out very well but after six different photo shoot tries I gave up on the photos.

I still think it came out well and I hoped it wouldn't be irritating so I wore it all day to see if it would bug me and it didn't. Now my kids want them. Hum should I be concerned that little children think this is cool as I think it is but does it fit into the 7 to 11 age bracket of cool. I mean I didn't think it looked childish but I am not sure now. Oh well I like it so I will wear it anyway. I can see me making a bracelet to match maybe make some bracelets for the girls in colored wire that to me seems a little more child like.

Variations on many themes

As most of you know, I like English paper piecing and I like making fabric yoyo's and crocheting. So, in the process of making the yoyo afghan, I thought about all of those things and came up with a variation of all of them together. This is just my first mock up. It does have a different stitch count than the yoyo afghan tutorial to achieve the hexogonal shape.

working on a few projects

Ok, most of my studio stuff is boxed up so I can only work on a few projects, so these are what I have been working on as of late.
Found my old hex project while boxing stuff up, so since I am working in size 10 thread and this is made from scraps, I left it out to use up little scraps from the yoyo afghan.

Speaking of the yoyo afghan in thread, I am working on two more blocks for it, one green and one pink.

Since we are on the subject of yoyos, here is the cotton yarn patriotic yoyo afghan. Hopefully I will have it done by the 4th since I missed flag day.

I have about three more size 10 thread afghans I am working on as well, at this point in time. Figured since I was not packing up the colored size 10 I might as well work on all of those projects. Everything else is going into moving pods at the moment, and I may not see it for a while. The next one is a simple granny square out of scraps.

I also have two others that have two different types of irish rose using up scraps as well that I am working on, but I didn't take photos of them.
