1 Pair finished

front and back cuffback side

My daughter finished making the pair of lace gloves she was making for herself.  I believe she is happy with them.  They came out better than she thought they would so that is good.   She has never made a pair of gloves before so as a first attempt she did real well and no help from me.
Also her first time reading a pattern that was not in American terms but British terms.  They are a simple mesh pattern.  But she did have to figure out the fingering part and all on her own and how to add the elastic cuff and make the cuff itself so good for her.  My only complaint on her finished piece she made them fit her perfectly.  OK I know that does not sound like a complaint but it is.  Since she is only 14 years old they will fit her maybe 4 years tops then her hands will out grow them.
back and front
All she had to to was make the fingers 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer and they would have fit her almost indefinitely  or half fingers would have worked too.  But the length is her thinking not mine in retrospect she wishes she had made them a a little longer.

gloves, gloves , gloves

there are 3 pairs of lace gloves under construction currently in my home

Pair number 1 by me

irish gloves threadbook photo irish glovesThis pair of gloves my daughter wanted to make but she kept getting hung up on the pattern so i decided to work them for me instead.  When she saw them half way done she realized what her mistake was and it was a simple one.  She had just forgotten to turn her work is all.  At the end of each round and go back and fourth instead of around the hand. She did not give up on making gloves but went to another pair for starters.  The photo at the left is what they look like in the book.   Below is where I am on them as of last night.  As you can see part way through one glove and a little started on the second glove.  Have not even started the cuffs yet.  These are supposed to be size 60 thread but I am doing them in size 50 hope they still work out ok I have a tight tension going so it should.

Pair number 2 by my 14 year old daughter...
book photoMy daughter is trying to make her own set of gloves.  She just graduated from the eighth grade and knows that I had a pair of lace mesh gloves my grandmother bought me when I graduated.  She wanted a pair of her own.  Her first set of ladies gloves.  Sort of funny as she had her first pair as a baby in arms when I taught myself to crochet that was the first thing I made was lace gloves for her baby blessing.   But in her head I think it is a sort of right of passage to have them at the end of eighth grade.  I did not make mine she is making hers so she has more skill than I did at that age.  She is using size 20 thread to make these the pattern has the option of two different cuffs so I do not know yet as to which she has chosen.

Pair number 3 by me
copying a pair of gloves i repaired recently
gloves I repaired repently trying to remember what I saw and makeI wanted to make a copy of those gloves before they left.  But time eluded me and that was not able to happen so I took a lot of photos of it which you can see here.  In the hopes that I could make something similar.  I know this does not look like much but the stitch counts are correct on this part as I still had the glove in hand when I did this so everything from here on out on this pair of gloves is strictly from photos I took and good educated guesses.

two done out of three February RPLAL

I have one more of these to finish. The cupid is not yet done but it will be soon but i will not be using variegated thread on that one.

under construction It was Interesting working on this second heart to see where the colors ended up with the variegated thread.  You never know what is going to happen when using a thread like that.  Interesting that some of the fans stayed solid in color I would have expected almost none to be solid not more than half of them being that way. A RPL project finished / not finished

This is from when I was teaching years and years ago at the West Jordon Stitching Corner. It was set up as a sampler for the class I had a few made so I was prepared for different classes. Also so so I did not have to take the time in class to bast and finish that many threads.
I would have several done in different stages of finished. This way I could teach stitches. At the end of class I use to give the finished sampler away. This is the last one and it was never used and never filled in. Since I was not teaching any more (that store went out of business) I just left it on the pattern for about 10 years. Today I saw it in my project box for RPL decided I would remove it from the pattern as I was never going to finish it. Because it had been basted for so long in this position it kept its shape so I think I will keep it just as is and add it to my Christmas ornaments just like this half done silly but true.  Group on ravelry all about this type of lace.
