This, I think, is the only true smock apron in the collection. It is hard to tell in the photo, but this one has seen a lot of use. This type of apron is slipped on by pulling your arms forward and then it is tied in back with nothing going over the head so nothing pulls on your neck. It has two pockets and is made up of 5 pieces of fabric, not counting bindings. This is a very practical apron because it covers most of your upper clothing. Just not a very fun style to look at, but that is easily changed with fabric choices and embellishments.
This apron style was popular from the 30 - 60's. But this is more than likely the 40's.
In case you are wondering, there are thirty of these posts all together, so 10 more to go. The last one will post on the 19, the same day as the drawing to win one of these aprons that has been reproduced. It will be a cute apron, not just a utilitarian thing.
Another great apron and probably one of the most practical as it provides more coverage! I like the fact that it does not go over your head.
ReplyDeleteI think this one could possibly be my favorite. I like it very much.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer to wear the utilitarian for everyday use. I can make a real mess and need something I can wipe my hands on. This pattern appeals to me the most so far.
