Mrs. Knight's English Toffee

Ingredients
  • 2 cups real butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 cup chopped walnuts and pecans ( i don't like nuts in candy I will skip this part)
  • 1 lg (8 oz.) Hershey's bar of milk or dark chocolate
How to
  1. Lightly grease baking sheet
  2. sprinkle baking sheet with  1/2 of the nuts
Mix

  1. In a heavy 4 quart pan the 
    1. butter
    2. sugar
    3. water
    4. syrup
  2. stirring constantly ( cook till you get to a temperature of 305 degrees Fahrenheit or until mixture is medium or golden brown in color sort of the color of a brown paper bag
  3. Pour onto baking sheet over nuts being careful not push all the nuts to one spot
  4. while still warm sprinkle with grated chocolate( or chocolate chips) over the top of the toffee mixture
  5. Once the chocolate has melted spread it even with a rubber spatula
  6. Sprinkle with the rest of the nuts
  7. Let this set at room temperature till completely cooled off
  8. break into pieces

  1. How did you know I was looking for a recipe to make this candy????
    Seriously, I had this candy at a church luncheon a long time ago, since then I would think about the candy, and was glad that I did not get the recipe [you see, I would make it and we would eat it...]
    Now I will have to try it after I get the ingredients.

    Question: Is the corn syrup ABSOLUTELY necessary?

  3. Looks delicious! I make fudge for Christmas gifts but I might try some of this this year. Thanks to you and Mrs. Knight for sharing.
