Part 20: Baby Christening Gown

front

This is another in my collection.  This one had a little note that came with it that reads .
Made by Mrs. Mary Fults of Woodhull N.Y in the eighty-fifth year of her age and after loosing the sight of her right eye.

back
This is a real simple gown.  It has tons of pin tucks and a little ruffle around the bottom of the yoke.

There is one other adornment which is Solomon's knot crochet at the collar, sleeves and hem.  I know that some people when they see this type of crochet think it is tatting it is not.  There is a tatting that is sort of similar in appearance but this is not that.

  1. I absolutely adore pintucks. The lover's knot crocheted trim is pretty. I've always wondered how it would hold up over time - seems more likely to get caught in the loose threads and snapped, but it is a delicate, airy looking lace.
