HS101: Lace to Lace

Stitch length of 1.0
Stitch width of 2.0-2.5

Use DMC heirloom sewing machine thread when doing this for real and needle size#60, #65 or #70.

For the sample I will just be using normal sewing thread so you can see it easy in the photos and it will be a contrasting color for the same reason.

prep work
  1. Cut 2 pieces of French Lace
  2. Prep fabric by starching the lace and press lace  (using clean iron, and clean board, also use spray starch)
    • definition of pressed lace as opposed to ironed lace.  when ironing fabrics you slide your iron over the fabrics if you do that with the lace you will distort it and the starch will make it keep the wired shape you ironed into it.   When pressing it is an up and down motion. spray lace and set iron on lace pick up iron and reset in another spot keep doing this till the lace is pressed and not ironed.
How to

  1. align designs in the lace in a way that is pleasing to you either lined up, or mirrored or offset which ever you think is the nicest appearance for the project in question.
  2. Butt laces without overlapping under sewing machine foot.
    • lace to  lace in machine
  3. zig zag edges together always start about 1/4 of a inch into the lace that way the lace does not get sucked down into the feed dogs of your machine.
    • If you have a wider heading adjust stitch width to accommodate it
      • definition of heading it is the top side of a piece of French lace edging on an insertion both bound sides are headers so edging 1 header insertion two headers
